Tender Belly Triathlete Ben Hoffman to Compete in IRONMAN World Championships

Hoffman joins more than 2,000 athletes as they embark on a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2 marathon run along the Kona Coast on Hawaii’s Big Island – the ultimate test of mind, body and spirit. Athletes representing 68 countries and territories on six continents will compete in this year’s IRONMAN World Championship – with athletes ranging in age from 18 to 84.
As a professional triathlete, Hoffman got his start in college, but said he’s always been competitive and athletic, playing soccer, golf, basketball, running track, and rock climbing and hiking. In college, he looked for something new to do and joined the triathlon team, which lead him to win a national title as a senior individual and well as the national team title. Since 2007 when he joined the pro ranks, Hoffman has earned IRONMAN, Half-Ironman and National Champion victories, spending the majority of his training between his home base of Boulder, Co., and Tucson, Ariz.
The Hawaii competition marks the culmination of the season for Hoffman, and the majority of his time has been focused on training and mental preparation for the race. “Prepping for a race like this is a combination of always thinking about it – finding the right line of thinking so that it’s not constantly overwhelming you or stressing you out, but motivating you,” Hoffman said. “I also draw a lot of confidence from the training that I do so that there’s no question that I did everything I could to prepare in the best possible way. That puts me in a good mental place.”
