DENVER, CO—Tender Belly, a purveyor of all-natural heritage breed pork products, announced that sponsored triathlete Ben Hoffman, has placed second in the world at the 2014 IRONMAN World Championships in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, on Oct. 11. Hoffman’s 8:19:23 finish in the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2 marathon run, carried him to the second-place finish and into the hearts of bacon lovers everywhere – as some of Hoffman’s pre-race meals included Tender Belly pork products. “We are so proud of the accomplishments that Ben has achieved as an elite athlete – and we are proud to support his efforts in each and every race he competes,” said Shannon Duffy, owner, Tender Belly. “We know that a huge part of his training involved nutrition and are glad to know our pork products can help him achieve his goals and carry him to the next level in his career.” Hoffman finished the swim in 51:20, the bike in 4:32:20 and the marathon run in 2:51:25 alongside more than 2,000 athletes from 68 countries and territories on six continents. The IRONMAN race is known as the ultimate test of mind, body and spirit. Hoffman began his professional career in 2007, earning IRONMAN, Half-Ironman and National Champion victories. He started competing in triathlons in college after looking for something new to do, and Hoffman said the college ranks offered him world-class coaching and a solid team from which to build a professional career. Prior to the IRONMAN World Championships, Hoffman said he treats himself after a race, “Hawaii marks the end of the season, from March through October,” he said. “So I will indulge a little bit – which is important to do in celebration of completing an event that is self-denying in some ways. I like to honor that and give myself a mental and physical break.
