Since starting to read labels and caring about what I put into my body four years ago, I've been on a hunt for uncured bacon with no sugar. Everything I found was basically flavorless and so thin it cooled down to nothing. That is until I stumbled upon Tender Belly. THIS is by far the best bacon I've ever had, clean ingredients or not. The pieces are always uniform and thick! Not too thick, but just right. Since I was able to go to the local store and get Tender Belly whenever I wanted I was eating 2-3 packs per week. But then travesty hit. I was on my usual bacon run when I couldn't find it on the shelf. I found a guy in the meat department who informed me that they would no longer be carrying Tender Belly at all. I think I might have cried a little. He told me to hold on and came back with 8 packages from the back so of course I bought them all. I then did what any normal person would do and went to 6 other stores to buy all that they had. I ended up with 26 packs of deliciousness. Overkill. Hardly. I now have to ration my bacon because I have no current supplier. So don't be like me and take it for granted when you can get it. I live in Tennessee and have always loved Benton Bacon from Madisonville, TN. But now after trying Tenderbelly, I found a truly wonderful product. I use in recipes as well as just a BLT. Just enough smokiness to surpass any other bacon.
Don't remember what city I was in when I first fell in love, with Tender Belly Bacon that is, but I think San Francisco, and I left my bacon heart there because when I returned home to Georgia, I could not find Tender Belly at any of my grocers. I visited a relative in Manhattan, NY. and what do you know, my heart had shown up there at Whole Foods. My daughter also lives in NY and her favorite breakfast meat is now Tender Belly no sugar Bacon. She loves it so much I've even given it as part of her birthday gift, now my granddaughter loves the bacon too. The story does not end there, on my last visit to NY I stumbled upon Wegman's grocery, and guess what I found, MORE Tender Belly bacon, so now I have 2 places to buy the best. So please don't go away, I love the story of the two brothers who had the vision and the drive to bring us the best from their choice of the Heritage line of pigs, to the flavoring and the caring to bring us their wonderful products. Now to the bacon itself. The flavor is everything they say, and oh yeah I've done the shrink test too and it surpasses every other brand I've tested it against, won't name them here though. Just try it for yourself. Their ham is next on my radar :) :) :)
